Our School History Summary

The war situation during the terrorist war in Sri Lanka did not leave this village. Based on the population living in Poovarasantheevu, one school is sufficient. However, the terrorist situation between 1989 and 2002 led to the emergence of two schools in this area.

Al-Mina Maha Vidyalaya

Origin and development

Poovarasantheevu is a beautiful village. Tall trees towering over the sky; Meadows warmed by dewdrops; The voices of the birds that beckon the listeners; Long, meandering rivers; A school has come up in the south of the Kinniya, which rises in the east, in this ordinary village, where flowers are blooming here and there among the villagers.

Regarding school land...,

The opinions compiled based on the voices of the elders and scholars who lived in this village are presented here. It is known that the land of this school was donated by Chelamarikar Kasimbawa, Subath Muhammad and Abdul Hameed (may God accept their gift). On 13.01.1948, Sultan Widan, under the leadership of the then Kinniya Division Clerk (Nuszulu), village elders, well-wishers and administrators made arrangements to set up the school. They went to the nearby forest cut trees and built a small wooden shed. The shed set up in this way was officially started as a Government Muslim Kalavan (AMU) school on 1948.03.01. This learning activity has been done with 30 students and 02 teachers from grade-01 to grade-03. The initial responsibility of this school was given to the headmaster, who currently has the same responsibility as the principal: Mr. L.A. Hanifa is in charge. It is noteworthy that he is from Thoppur.

This school was started at the same time as the schools in the center of Kinniya. The teachers of those days were engaged in teaching those poor students who had no interest in learning and struggled with hunger. They have walked from Kinya to school amidst dark forests and deadly animals. Mr. Chinnaiah (Jaffna) while Mr. Janab Aapdeen is the Principal. Mr. Veerakoda Arachi is also a teacher in the middle of many difficulties involved. Due to the difficulty of transportation, Mrs. Kasipillai, Vathyamma, has lived and taught in two schools with her family Elders have suggested such things.

Awaking of the rise of the school...

This school has been taken over by Principal Janab: MBA. Kuddoos Maulavi on 15.05.1988. Janab: R.U. Raszak Maulavi is also working as a school teacher. At that time only classes up to standard 5 were being held. After taking charge of the school

Mr. SAM. Farook for multifaceted development. Baruch the president himself has been the root cause. He has instilled various dreams in his heart regarding the educational development of the school and has made huge efforts to make those dreams a reality. The words “Dream truly, work for your dream” (Dr. Abdul Kalam) come to mind.

The latter part of 1988 was a period of rampant terrorism in the country. Kolam Poovarasantheevu became a refugee in the 1990s. Due to this, the educational status of the students was affected. 1990 - 1991 till December Sinna Kinniya

The school was held in the Qur'an Madrasa of Santhippallivayal masjid. Later resettlement took place and due to the fact that the Sri Lankan Army camped in the school during the resettlement, the school was running in temporary sheds on Mukhaideen Jumma School grounds from 1991.01.01 to December 1999. All the resources available for the development of this school were lost.

When there was a situation where it was not possible to run the school on the masjid land, discussions were held several times with various parties to get another land as an alternative. The landowners were asked for help several times and after those discussions became ineffectual, SAM. Farook Due to the efforts of Hadiyatullah Maulavi (Principal) his father A.R. Muhammad Yusuf (Lebai) donated a part of his own land to the school on 29.05.2000. This is not a small matter indeed. That time was a great help.

Later, when all the classes were held at the place where the present-day Yusuf Vidyalaya was established, they got permission to run the school on their own land. At that time in 2004, the classes from 1st to 5th grade were held in the present Yusuf Vidyalaya and the other classes were held in T/kin/Al-Mina Maha Vidyalaya.

Due to the army's refusal to leave the school completely, the school was on one side and the army camp on the other side. This caused various procedural problems. A few months later, the LTTE attacked the barracks and the school. The school office was completely razed to the ground in the attack. As a result, important documents were destroyed. Due to this, the school was again conducted under the shade of trees in the Palliwayal grounds for a few weeks and then shifted to Yusuf Vidyalaya. And the army camp

T/ kin /Al-Mina Maha Vidyalayam was moved back to its old location in 2004 due to continued pressure from the community to relocate the school to a remote location. So far seven places have had to operate in temporary shifts.

Some progress in the history of the school

  • Grade 06 - 08 sanctioned on 01.01.1989.
  • 1992.01.09 - Grade 09 - 11 sanctioned.
  • 1992.03.19 Change of name to T/Al-Mina Maha Vidyalayam (AMU College)
  • 1994 December -First appearance for G.C.E (O/L)
  • 2001.06.11 - Grade 12, 13 (1C School) promotion.
  • 2003 August - First appearance of G.C.E (A/L)

All this promotion was done by S.A.M.Farook It was placed in the era of Pharaoh. Principal S.A.M. is proud to have created a good society through education, even though the paths passed through were rough and bitter. All the principals and teachers have it, including Baruch. Parents also contributed to this.

The said president is Marhum SAM. Farook. It is also worth noting that the current principal Assheikh MY. Hadiyatullah, worked as a teacher in this school for about 14 years under the management of SAM. Farook worked side by side with the principal of SAM. Farook in the development of Al Mina for more than 10 years as the secretary of the school development association. After the transfer of SAM. Farook. Some principals have taken charge of the school, but the services are not there as much as talked about. However, Principal AMM. Salim during his service period made arrangements for T/kin/Yusuf Vidyalaya to run as a separate primary school and this school as a secondary school and solved the administrative problem.

From 1948 till today, the school has been suffering from physical deficiencies. The lack of furniture and building facilities is the main reason why the school has not been able to achieve due to politics. It is worrying that even today, it is affected by the war environment of Al-Mina.

When looking at the land of the school…

In order to increase the area of the school land. The efforts made by the principal, SDC members, administrators of the school, Ahatiyya administration, associations and well-wishers over many years have now succeeded. That is a part of the 2-acre land located next to the school, the owner of the land, S. Abdul Wahab Wirathumma, has already donated the part (in the middle of the land) to the school.

Abdul Wahab Choukatali - Muhammad Yusuf Vaisa Banu (husband and wife) purchased the remaining land with their own money and donated it to the school on 11.09.2015. Principal ACM. Subair, teacher A.Hitayatulla, SDC secretary K.M. Umar Ali, Treasurer K.M. Mursaleen and members played important roles. Along with that, many dignitaries of the town also participated and contributed.

After this, SAM. Subir who served as Acting Principal is also notable for his dedicated service. Haider Lam, who took over as the Acting Principal of this school after SAM. Subir Principal has done his best service for about one year, but in order to fill the vacancy of Principal of the school, the application was requested and conducted by the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Eastern Province, and Assheikh MY. Hathiyathullah will be acting from 11.01.2021. Assheikh MY. Hathiyathullah was appointed as the principal. He is an old student of this school and the first Sri Lankan principal of this school and village. It is also significant. During his tenure (2021-2022) due to Corona and political and economic crises, schools were given a long holiday. During this period, old students took the help of well-wishers and joined the neighboring schools to print and distribute activity cards to all the students of all classes and all subjects. In addition, he set up his residence in this village and went to students' houses day and night and held discussions with parents and carried out dedicated service with organizations like SDEC, OBA.
